14A’s Glossopdale Devils 6 Vs Preston Phoenix   3rd Dec 05                       This was a vital game for Devils to win if they wanted to have any hope of reaching the National Finals next summer. The first 5 minutes were very even until Jack Vose hit a slapshot into the roof of Preston’s net. Warren Hirst made it 2-0 after a great pass from Stefan Hart. Devils then went to sleep and conceded 4 seconds before halftime, which left the Bench feeling more than a little unsettled.

However, there was no need to worry, as the second half was all one way traffic. Defenceman Alfie Olinski scored with a slapshot and this was followed by two more from Warren Hirst - putting the game safe for Devils. A further goal from Harry Sims rounded off a great day with a final score of 6-1. Every player in the squad either scored a goal or assisted one which shows the all round quality of the side and this result moves the U14A’s up to second place in the League. Netminder Jack Austin also had stats of 22 shots for only 1 goal.

Team-: N/M Jack Austin…Jack Vose, Alfie Olinski, Warren Hirst, Tom Briggs, Josh Collins, Stefan Hart, Andy Makinnon, Tom Browne and Harry Sims.

15th Oct 05 DEVILS LOSE OUT IN 9 GOAL THRILLER

Devils Under-16's v Ramsbottom Rams (Lost 4-5)

Glossopdale Devils Under-16's were always going to be up against it without 3 of their regular forwards, against a physical and well organised opposition. Rams play together as an ice-hockey team and they quickly put Devils under pressure. There were good exchanges between the sides but it was Ramsbottom who opened the scoring and then doubled their advantage soon afterwards.

Devils re-grouped and began to get into the game however suffered a setback when Rams scored a third to go 3-0 in front. As the half-time whistle loomed, the Glossopdale side gritted their teeth and pushed for one final effort. Nick Ellyard forced his way through and suddenly found himself one-on-one with the Rams Netminder. He didn't miss the opportunity and Devils had reduced the deficit at half-time.

The second period began with Devils in a more bouyant mood. After a series of attacks, Mike Townsend scored from a cheeky wrap-around to put the Glossopdale side just one behind. Game on! Devils now had their tails up and the opposition were beginning to show cracks. A smart move down the right side saw Jack Vose play a perfect pass into the centre which Paul Burney met first time to put the sides level. This was turning into a cracker.

Devils were now showing some real self-belief and mounted sustained pressure. The move of the game followed as Mike Townsend played the puck forward to Alex Haworth. His one-two pass with Jack Vose put him clean through and his angled wrist shot beat the Netminder easily. Devils had come back from 3 goals down to lead 4-3. Unfortunately, one or two players seemed to think the game had been won and through a combination of lack of discipline and fatigure, Devils conceded the equaliser.

With minutes to go, Ramsbottom pushed hard for the winner and found a gap to give them victory at 5-4. However, Devils can be proud of their efforts being understrengthed and coming from behind. Man-of-the-Match went to Alex Haworth but a special mention must also go to U-14 player Jack Vose for a terrific contribution.

Glossopdale Devils are are in action next weekend at U-14 level at Salford on Saturday, U-12 level at Rotherham on Saturday, Senior at Salford on Sunday and U-16's at Deeside on Sunday.

MATCH REPORTS FROM WEEKEND OF 8th OCT 05
U12's (Flintshire League) vs Wrexham Rockets WON 13-0

Neither side were able to field a regular Netminder and in both cases had no alternative but to get an outfield player 'kitted-up'. Devils stand-in Max Phillips has always had a yearning to play in this position and rose to the occassion. It took Devils a while to get into their stride but eventually Olly Townsend hit the net. After that the talented young Glossopdale side dominated and by the end of the first period we were 5 - 0 up.
The second half saw Devils take Wrexham apart with the forwards running havoc and the defence doing a great job by stopping any attempts to break on goal. Max only needed to stop three shots, which he coped with excellently. By the end of the game Devils had won 14 -0. The Goals came from Joel Cope (4), Tom Phillips (1), Dominic Martin (1), Jack Worlsey (3), Jake O'Connor (1) and another 3 from Olly Townsend.
U12's (Flintshire League) vs St Asaph Shadows DRAW 4-4
Devils were again forced to play without a recognised Netminder and with in the first few moments of the game were caught sleeping and the Glossopdale side went 1-0 down. After a period of pressure Devils eventually evened out the scores with a brilliant slap shot and first goal for the club from Tom Wright. Before half time, Joe Cope got the Glossop side a second, to finish 2 -1 up at the break. The second half saw Devils dominate but also get too cavalier and they were caught on the break twice, resulting in St Asaph going 3-2 up. After a great assist from Tom Wright, Tom Phillips brought Devils level once more. As Glossopdale pushed for the winning goal they were caught again, despite Max's best efforts in goal they got number 4 to put St Asaph ahead 4-3. With one and half minutes to go Devils threw on three forwards and a defender and had six or seven chances. Finally, Jack Worsley deservedly grabbed the equaliser with 20 seconds to go. The clock was against Devils getting a 5th and the final score ended at 4-4.
Glossopdale Devils U14 B's vs. Glossopdale Devils U14 A's(at Salford University) - Devils A WON 6-1
On paper this was going to be a very one sided game, but it proved to be a different stary. All of the players battled very hard, from the heroics of Jake O'Connor in Net (deputising for Bob Browne), to debutant Kris Worswick up front. The score by half time was 4-0 to the A's with Jack Vose grabbing a couple, one from Stefan Hart and the 4th from Harry Sims. The start of the second half saw the B's coming out blazing as they deservedly got one back with a great pass from Olly Townsend converted into the back of the net by Jack Worsley. The A's then resorted to longer range shots to unsettle the stand-in Netminder, however Chris Wallace, Jake Moran, Dan Burton, Ryan Hulme and Joe Sims' defending was keeping them out. Eventually the A's got two more goals through Warren Hirst and another for Jack Vose. Final score end 6 -1. MVP went to Jake O'Connor & Stefan Hart.
Devils U21's v Preston Phoenix - Drew 3-3
It's not often the older lads get a mention but after watching the U21's v Preston yesterday, they definitely deserve it. Preston had a 10 man bench and whilst there were a number of 16's playing for them, they are all excellent players. Preston took the lead and at times threatened to over-run Devils. But gradually the lads dug deep and began to play some great hockey. Devils were actually 3-1 up at one stage until Preston slowly clawed their way back into the game and finished 3-3 at the final whistle. Devils goals coming from Gary Taylor, Adam Hagg and Jay Burgess.
The whole game was well competed and every Devils Player to a man gave everything. Tom Ferns got MVP for a series of excellent saves and there were great prefomrnaces from the whole team - Gary Taylor, Jay Burgess, Adam Hagg, Mike Judge, Jim Hirst and Alex Haworth.

DEVILS UNDER-12's MAINTAIN THEIR CHALLENGE AT THE TOP
Glossopdale Devils U12's Vs Snaith - WON 7-0

Although the Team started off in dominant fashion Devils could not get a goal to settle the side down. Then Tom Philips scored two goals in quick succession, one assisted by Joel Cope. By the end of the first half the Glossop side had added another two - one from Dominic Martin and the other from Jack Worlsey after and excellent unselfish pass from Joel Cope. The second half again saw Glossopdale in control with Joel Cope and Ryan Hulme adding two further goals, and Jack Worsley with his second of the day assisted by Dominic Martin. Final score 7- 0.
Glossopdale Devils U12's Vs Peterlee - WON 8-0
On paper this looked tough, but an early goal settled the team down into another dominant performance. The larger more physical opposition were no match for the excellent passing and movement from Devils. By the end of the first half Glossop had scored 4 goals two from Ryan Hulme, one assisted by Tom Phillips, another by Jack Worsley and one from Dominic Martin. The second half saw more of the same. The passing between all the players including the defenders of Tom Jackson, Max Phillips, Joe Sims and Jake O'Connor showed how the game should be played. Joel Cope resumed the scoring, followed by Olly Townsend assisted by Ryan Hulme after an excellent wide run and pass. The next goal came from Joel Cope and Dominic Martin finished off the day with the last assisted by Tom Phillips. Final score 8 - 0.
Devils Under-12's have now won all four of the League Games in Central Region and are mounting a serious challenge to Norton Cyclones.
There was less good news at Under-16's where the team lost both of their opening fixtures to Chaddy Wildsharks and to Wigan Warlords. However, the second half performance in particular against Chaddy Wildsharks was an axcellent effort and Dale Hoggins played superbly in defence in both games. Devils Seniors were also in action on Sunday where they recorded a valiant 7-7 draw against a team of experienced players in NWOB, however the lads lost to Chaddy Wildsharks in their final game of the day. More action follows this weekend with both Under-14's teams in action at Salford on Saturday, the Under-12's playing at Deeside on Saturday and the Seniors playing at eeside on Sunday.

Glossopdale Devils had 3 Teams in action last weekend and there were mixed fortunes all round. The Under-14 B squad played their first two games of the season and were very unlucky to lose to Demon Hawks 2-3 in a great game which saw Devils take the lead through Jack Worsley only to see their opposition equalise just before the end of the first period. After the break Ryan Hulme fired in a terrific shot to put Devils 2-1 ahead again but Demon Hawks struck back twice in a minute to take the lead. Despite a late surge Devils could not find another goal and were narrowly beaten. Man-of-the-Match went to Jack Worsley.

In their second game, Devils were down to just 6 outfield players and facing one of the strongest Teams in the League in Preston Phoenix. It was not suprise that Preston forged ahead and were leading 7-0 at the break. During the first 5 minutes of the second period they added three more to their total and a cricket score looks on the cards. However, this Devils team had other ideas and they mounted a brilliant rearguard action to hold Preston out for the remainder of the game. Not only that, Devils managed to peg two goals back through Tom Revesz and a brilliant effort from Jack Worsley - assisted by Tom Revesz. Bob Browne, Devils Netminder was awarded Man-of-the-Match for his heroics during the final 14 minutes

The Under-14 A Squad had one of their toughest games for their first League match of the season and for much of the first period they were equal to their opponents Walkden Cobras. Despite being behind by two goals at the end of the first period, there were still signs that Devils could play themselves back into the game. However Walkden struck again early in the second to take a 3-0 lead. Devils pulled a goal back from Alfie Olinski but could not find a way past Cobras Netminder even though they were outshooting their opponents. Two very dubious decisions gave Walkden another two goals as Devils finally lost 1-5. Man-of-the-Match went to Netminder Jack Austin.

Their sceond game of the day was on paper an easier fixture against a realtively inexperienced Chaddy Wildsharks side. owever, Devils made hard work of this and defensive errors and some poor finishing prevented them from taking a stranglehold. However, the Glossopdale outfit still managed to put 8 goals past their opponents through Harry Sims, Jack Vose with 3, Andy MacKinnon with two, Warren Hirst and Tom Briggs. devils running out 8-3 winners with Warren Hirst getting the Man-of-the-Match award.

Sunday morning saw Devils Under-18's in action against Heywood Demons. Both Teams with just a 6 man bench but it was the Glossop side that took the game by the scruff of the neck. An excellent start to the game saw Devils race into a 4-0 half-time lead and although Heywood thratened to stage a minor comeback in the second period, it was never allowed to materialise and Devils fired in another four goals to run out 8-1 victors. The goals coming from captain Gary Taylor with 3, Sam Olinski with a couple, Alex Haworth with two and Nick Ellyard. MVP was Sam Olinski.

However, the U-18's could not maintain their momentum and found hemselves chasing the game against Preston later in the day, despite taking the lead through Gary Taylor. At half-time they were 3-1 behind and struggling to find some rhythym. Paul Burney reduced the arrears just after the break and for a moment it looked like Devils could mount a recovery. However Preston were passing better and kept themselves ahead for the remainder of the game although at the end, there was still just the one goal between the sides. devils losing 5-6 on the day, the other goals coming from Sam Olinski and another two from Gary Taylor. Man-of-the-Match went to Netminder Tom Ferns.

Devils Under-12's were all in action as they attended Trials for the Flintshire Conference Team down at Deeside. More action this weekend sees the Under-16's at Salford, the Under-12's at Rotherham and the Seniors at Salford on Sunday. Come on devils!

Hectic weekend of Hockey sees devils campaign start with more success

Glossopdale Devils were spread across the country at the weekend as they competed at various age-groups when the new Season got under way in earnest. The Under-16's were involved in an 8-team Tournament at Deeside and despite recording a comprehensive 6-0 victory in their first game and holding a Great Britain select team to just 2-0, they were unable to progress beyond the initial knock-out stages.
It was still an excellent work-out and goals on the day from Alex Haworth, Paul Burney, Mike Worthington and Warren Hirst showed that Devils certainly don't lack any fire-power, with great defensive qualities shown by Nick Ellyard, Dale Hoggins and Mike Townsend.

Devils Under-12's vs Sheffield Raptors - WON 9-2
The Under-12's started their new season in fine style at Rotherham playing in the Central Region League. A convincing first game win against Sheffield Raptors might have been more emphatic had the side not given away a couple of soft goals. Devils raced into a 3-0 half-time lead and then consolidated their position in the second period with some excellent passing. Strikes from
Joel Cope with 4, Tom Phillips (2), Joe Sims, Max Phillips and Ryan Hulme put the game beyond reach as the Glossop side won 9-2.

Devils Under-12's vs Blackhawks - WON 7-3
Glossopdale were taken by surprise by two large aggressive forwards and following a silly mistake Blackhawks took the lead. Devils quickly recovered and equalised through Joel Cope only to surrender anoher goal as Blackhawks scored a second. However, Devils struck back again to make it 2-2 at half-time. The second period started with a couple of quick goals and the team then took command. Although Blackhawks got a third, Devils finished with a couple more and were only denied by an excellent Blackhawks Netminder who kept them in the game longer. Final score 7 - 3 to Devils with the goals coming from Joel Cope (2), Jack Worsley (2), Tom Phillips, Olly Townsend and Dominic Martin.

Devils Under-10's vs Under-10 B's (WON 6-1), vs Sheffield Raptors (WON 5-3), vs Blackhawks (WON 5-2)
There were a number of debutants turning out for a new look U10s, Kev Finnan, Oliver Murray and George Cox and the signs were there that this could be another successful season for the Glossop 10s. The first line of Kev Finnen, Dominic Martin, Tom Jackson and Max Phillips destroyed the opposition with power, pace and skill. It's a bold statement but there are not going to many Under-10 lines in the country to match these guys. The second line of Judy Browne, Elle Worsley, Oliver Murray and Jake Wilson worked hard and competed well. They were unlucky not to get onto the score sheet with Judy Browne's shot squirming under the keeper and stopping on the line. Devils new Netminder George Cox also made some excellent stops and just got better as the day went on. All in all it was a great start to the season and 3 victories out of 3 is a terrific effort for this age-group.
Glossop 10a v Glossop 10b: Goals from Kevin Finnen (2), Tom Jackson (2), Judy Browne, Ellie Worsley
Glossop 10a v Raptors 5-3: Goals from Max Phillips (3), Dominic Martin (2)
Glossop 10a v Blackhawks 5-2: Goals Max Phillips (3), Dominic Martin (2)

The Under-10 B squad also played twice on the day and as well as defeat to the A squad, they were beaten by Blackhawks. However, this was a terrific start by the side who are made up mainly of players from the Development Scheme. There were strong performance from Hannah Beaumont, Will Cilgram and Ollie Gillespie and especially from captain Leah Cope who scored against the A squad.

So a busy weekend and yet more to follow as the Under-14's start their campaign this Saturday and the Under-18's on Sunday
